More About

Three provocative exhibitions within walking distance of each other are opening this week. "The Radical Camera: New York’s Photo League, 1936-1951" opens Oct.11 and presents over 150 vintage photographs from the famed group -- Berenice Abbott as a member -- which chronicled monumental shifts in the world, and eventually became blacklisted by McCarthy for leftist leanings, so you know it's gotta be good. Hurry over to the Museum of Craft and Folk Art to see its last exhibit before it closes forever on Dec. 1. Acknowledging that the economic climate has practically obliterated funding for the arts, higher ups said that “MOCFA had achieved its essential mission.” Still, ‘tis a sad day in Northern California when the only folk art museum in the area closes after 30 years. The final exhibition, "Fiber Futures: Japan’s Textile Pioneers x2," opens today. Elaborate altars and multi-dimensional art installations are on display in "Calling the Spirits to Face the Future: Dia de los Muertos 2012."Tonight, see over 80 artists reflect on the state of life and politics, as well as live painting, music, Frida Kahlo-themed performances, and an artist market.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 12. Continues through Nov. 10, 2012
