Amon Tobin with Kronos Quartet and Holy Other. 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5. the Greek Theatre, apeconcerts.com. $39.50.
Masterfully arranging samples that brought explosive, oblique jazz rolls to drum 'n' bass, Amon Tobin made his name pushing the boundaries of subwoofer punishment. Over the past 15 years he's moved from arranging shards of dusty grooves and found sound to digitally generating and deconstructing his own mechanized patterns, while still making speakers shudder with low-end. To present 2011's ISAM, a sample-free, crisper collection of modernized sound design, Tobin performs from inside a vast sculpture stretched and stacked across the stage. Projections cycle against this assemblage to represent the S.F. artist's fractured soundscapes. In addition, Tobin is currently road-testing more straightforward, beats 'n' bass Two Fingers material as an extended encore.
