Admit it: The art on your walls could use an upgrade. Especially if said art consists of not much more than posters you’ve had since college and that questionable painting you found leaning against a trash can on Valencia one night. Fear not, for Root Division is here to help. Perhaps you are already aware of its studio space for local artists, classes for youth and adults, and inventive exhibition program. Such things don’t just fund themselves, and Root Division’s 11th Annual Art Auction allows you to do good for the community simply by attending a fabulous party. With work by over 100 artists, you’re also guaranteed to find a favorite new piece or two or three to take home. Angie Wilson offers a series of detached “blue collars” in her cheeky take on work and workers, while Lauren DiCioccio and Ben Venom use their own powers of stitchery to create a felt memo pad and a wee cross-stitched heavy metal guitar. Photography has a strong showing as well, with work like Elizabeth Bernstein’s Make-Up portrait or Chris Fraser’s dimly-seen image of a suburban home. The constructed landscape in Mary Anne Kluth’s contribution is undeniably bewitching, too. Fine cuisine courtesy of Mission Bowling Club’s Anthony Myint and plenty of adult beverages sweeten the deal. Bid on something awesome. Your apartment will thank you.
