Maybe you think you’re a top-notch drink-maker because you took an online class, or because you can tell the difference between Ancient Age and Maker’s Mark in a blind taste test. But do you know much about the what, where, and who of your hooch? We didn’t think so. Learn the science behind your favorite libations at “The Science of Distilling,” co-produced by INFORUM, a division of the Commonwealth Club, and the Bay Area Science Festival. Featuring all kinds of tips for boozehounds to nerd out on, this workshop includes tastings from some of the Bay Area’s best boozeries, hands-on demos (so you can go home and try it yourself), mini-interviews with master distillers, and the chance to have a robot bartender serve you a drink. Another highlight is the interactive beverage creation stations brought to you by St. George Spirits, Anchor Distilling, 1512 Spirits, SFVodka, and others. Tickets include more than a couple drinks, so plan your transportation options ahead of time, and prepare to have your mind (and liver) blown as you learn more about alcohol than you did your entire freshmen year of college.
