We’re not sure how The Believerstill has time to run a magazine, it seems so busy printing parties lately. From the rockin’ Tumbeliever (Tumblr/Believer) celebration to the Calvin Johnson mixtape road show, you can anticipate any of their events to be knockouts. Tonight’s, When We Were Young and Dumb: The Stranger vs. The Believer, features writers from the magazine and Seattle alt-weekly The Stranger going head to cerebral head with tales from their youth. In the right corner on Team Believer is McSweeney’s Editor Brian McMullen, Publisher Laura Howard, and the youngest member of Oulipo (a literary badge of honor!), Daniel Levin Becker. In the far, far left corner we’ve got The Stranger’s Editor-in-Chief Christopher Frizzelle, Managing Editor Bethany Jean Clement, and the always bright and bawdy Lindy West, who are all promoting their book How to Be a Person:The Stranger’s Guide to College, Sex, Intoxicants, Tacos, and Life Itself. When you’ve got this many whip-smarts in one room, there’s no telling what stories will emerge from their lips, though it’s a fairly safe bet that Jesus, LSD, and virginity are involved.
