If you haven’t been giving much thought to your impending mortality lately, this should help: Star Trek: The Next Generation turns 25 this year. Remember how long ago your 25th birthday was? Exactly. The Next Generation is getting a great birthday party too, in the form of Creation Entertainment’s Official Star Trek Convention. Stars from many iterations of Trek appear all weekend long -- with the exception of the 2009 reboot, curiously enough -- but we’re especially excited by today’s lineup, which includes some of our favorite writers. Longtime Trek truth-speaker and “Trouble with Tribbles” scribe David Gerrold speaks on stage, as well as screenwriter Morgan Gendel, whose multimedia presentation “Journey to the Inner Light” describes his struggle to make it as a freelance TV writer, a struggle that resulted in what may well be the best episode of The Next Generation. Also appearing on stage is one of our favorite Trek actors, Jeffrey “Re-Animator” Combs, whom you can meet at the Friday Night Cocktail Party if you’re willing to drop a few more bucks. If not, even a general admission ticket is worth it to see all the pointy ears.
