More About

We all were children once (some of us like to think we never grew up), and many of our childhood experiences helped shape who we are today. But would you believe that certain feelings we have repressed since childhood are holding us back from getting what we want in our adult lives? This is one of the main concepts behind Dr. Sheldon Kardener's new book and talk: Breaking Free: How Chains From Childhood Keep Us From What We Want. For over 40 years, he has written extensively about and practiced psychodynamic psychotherapy, which he uses to understand how emotional conflicts develop, why they stick around, and how we can get over them. Called "Focused Dynamic Therapy," Kardener describes the process of identifying earlier “threads” that have become woven into the fabric of our present lives, which allow both therapist and patient to express an understanding of the patient’s problems. Kardener argues that in this world of growing uncertainty, only by abandoning childhood perceptions of safety will we find fulfillment in our adult lives.
