New Rock Star
There's a team behind every successful show: I'm very surprised that in a five-page article, Lorin Ashton [Bassnectar] doesn't mention his crew even once, except for them having two tour buses ["Bass Instincts," Ian S. Port, feature, 11/28]. If it weren't for his road crew, he would not be where he is today. Much love for all the guys and gals making sure his shows are looking and sounding the way they do!

A dubstep fan for life: Lorin Ashton is an incredible individual. I respect many things about him and his music, which captured me in about 2006. What I respect the most is that although his music has become more popular, it has never cheapened him. It is a special thing to be a part of the group that has been able to get a glimpse into the beautiful freak show that people lovingly call the underground. However, Ashton, and people like him, will remain true to the sound while some other [electronic musicians] capture the fans' interest sooner or later. Ashton will still be making dubstep after they are said and done with it, and I will still be dancing to break-beats and mash-ups. Great article, much respect.

Reader thinks everyone knows what he does: This is probably one of the worst-written articles on electronic music I have read in a while. It actually upsets me that it's in SF Weekly. It reads like a PR one sheet of bad information. Much respect to Ashton and his bass movement, but unless someone died 10 years ago and has risen from the dead, a person knows what dubstep is, and the very fact that the writer says "some of his best-known songs are pop hits he's uploaded to his laptop and then remixed" sounds like he has never used a computer. It's as if this article was written for a 100-year-old who has never driven a car or used a toaster. Please, try harder.

Votes For All
When ranked-choice voting changes the outcome: I think it's fantastic that bungling political consultants (and candidates) who couldn't fathom a campaign that included second-choice endorsements were defeated ["Rank Amateurs," Chris Roberts, Sucka Free City, 11/28]! Hopefully this will be the nail in the coffin for campaigning as usual in S.F.; woe to those who ignore the lessons mentioned in this article, and hooray for less negative campaigns in the future!

There are bigger issues in S.F. than nudism: This just looks like a politician pretending to care about his constituents ["Public Nudity Ban Passes, No More Naked People Allowed in San Francisco," Kate Conger, the Snitch, 11/20]. How about Scott Wiener spend some of his precious press time and political maneuvering to help the homeless, the starving, destitute, and poverty-stricken? I think those issues are more important than getting a few old guys to wear a thong. Or are those people not important because they don't have the money or clout to help promote his political career?
