Anyone who remembers beloved local synth-pop outfit Butterfly Bones better get hip to Painted Palms, and fast. Reese Donohue's new duo — a collaboration with far-flung cousin Christopher Prudhomme — takes the humid, hypnotic textures of Balearic dance and mixes them with a keen pop sensibility that made the group's debut EP, Canopy, pretty much irresistible. So good, in fact, that the initially free EP won praise from Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes and was later released by indie label Secretly Canadian. Painted Palms have a new 7-inch on Polyvinyl Records dropping on March 5, and begin their year with a headlining set at the first anniversary of Wood Shoppe, a free monthly concert series known for its forward-leaning bookings.
