All That Jazz

Comedian Becky Pedigo has appeared on TV a few times — Craig Ferguson and Comedy Central Presents are notable examples — but she makes her living grinding it out in comedy clubs. What kind of living is that? Well, she wrote a book about it. Why not? If you're not going to go to the comedy club (when's the last time you went to a comedy club?), she's going to bring you, in Kindle form if necessary, those tales of struggle and heartbreak trying to make two-drink sonsofbitches laugh for gas money. Her book, Killing Me Softy with Jazz Hands, chronicles a lifetime of working the rooms, often less-than-stellar rooms involving chicken wire and quick exits. Pedigo considered herself raised by the gritty scene, "in green rooms, showrooms, and comedy condos across the country by comics who drank, swore, did drugs, and fornicated with waitresses in the room next to mine," as she writes. Tonight, she gives a one-night-only "performance" of her memoir (read: stand-up), with a signing afterward. Think of it as an hilarious author appearance. They exist!
