More About
Since the 1990s, band name punctuation has grown increasingly peculiar. Nowadays, monikers are enhanced by exclamation points (Against Me!), question marks (Why?), periods (fun.), and parentheses (Sunn O)))). BEAK> — an experimental electronica three-piece from Bristol, England, that features Portishead's Geoff Barrow — pushes a fresh symbol into the game, which it has since abused by titling its second album >>. The album is as captivating as BEAK>'s stylization techniques are infuriating, which is to say a whole lot. Outdated electronic equipment is tortured for its notes, voices howl in the distance, and minimalist compositions feel unrelentingly long. The sum leaves behind traces of a foggy, gray hell populated only by high-frequency squeals and your worst anxieties. Kubrick could have worked magic with these sounds.
