• OFF! canceled its show due to sickness, but opening hardcore legend Negative Approach played for $5 and drew punks from all over to Great American Music Hall. It was a Saturday night of circle pits, stage-diving, and some guy throwing flaming napkins off the balcony — so, an excellent one.

• Lost in the Night checked on S.F.'s underground party scene, and found it raging in an old warehouse on the outskirts of the city. Bobby Browser, Carlos Souffront, and DJs Conor and Solar kept a friendly crowd moving all night — and made us glad to live here.

• Jackson Browne played for three hours and took requests from a spirited crowd in Nob Hill. The L.A. singer-songwriter's "acoustic" show came complete with drums, bass, and electric guitar, along with rousing renditions of "The Pretender" and "Running on Empty."

Fizzle

• The 2013 Grammy Awards: now with zero surprises and precious few interesting failures! The awards ceremony played it safe, and aside from some TV face-time for Frank Ocean and a moving tribute to Levon Helm, proved even duller than recent years.

• Dear Morrissey, will you ever actually make it to San Francisco? You've canceled your last three Bay Area shows, and while you're set to play two this spring, a bleeding ulcer and Barrett's esophagus has you canceling U.S. dates yet again. We're hopeful you'll get better in time — but not optimistic.

• Bruno Mars released a new, non-habit-forming sleep aid — er, we mean, song — titled "When I Was Your Man." We know it's supposed to be a heartbreaking, regret-fueled ballad. But it's utterly pedestrian, and full of rhyming couplets that make us want to beat ourselves over the head with a thesaurus.
