Sizzle & Fizzle: Highs and Lows from the Last Week in S.F. Music

Sizzle

• Tenderloin club 222 Hyde closed with a packed final party that went early into the morning and only ended when the cops came. A fat roster of DJs and performers cranked the basement club's system into the red, and the place got so crowded we had to grind our way through the crowd. It was a perfect way to say goodbye.

The Mission's Adobe Books is trying to survive a major rent hike, and many in the local arts community are coming to its aid. Latest to help out are local musicians the Dodos and Adam Stephens (of Two Gallants), who are playing a big benefit at Public Works to support the venerable bookseller.

Our new metal column, Hella Weights, launched online with the rundown on why Slayer fans are pissed that drummer Dave Lombardo was kicked out, and excitement over the upcoming Bolt Thrower show in Oakland. Check it out.

Fizzle

So Morrissey canceled his S.F. show. Again. He was apparently hospitalized with pneumonia right here in the city, and the Regency Ballroom date was rescheduled for May 1. But it still marks his fourth canceled S.F. show in a row. The last time he actually played in the Bay Area was December 2009.

Mighty is trading its beloved vintage sound system — parts of which were used in the legendary New York club Paradise Garage — for a fancy, newer setup. The one-of-a-kind speaker array will play its last party at the Potrero Hill club at the end of this month, and go to Burning Man promoter Pink Mammoth after that.

Alert: Mindless Behavior is a terrible — but aptly named — new wannabe boy band whose new song, "All Around the World," sounds like something we've all heard thousands of times before. Sorry, but it's difficult to let unoriginal, AutoTune-d, generic dance-beat nonsense like this slide at the best of times.
