More About

Caña is close, but sloppiness is keeping it from becoming the sleek destination restaurant it's trying to be. As a diner, I don't want to worry about tripping a waiter or knocking over shrubbery when I'm led to my table. I don't want half of my $20 entree to be cold, and I don't want to be denied coffee on a Sunday morning. I do hope they get it together though, because I'd go back for one of those sandwiches. I'm sure Ramsay and Irvine would agree that's an excellent start.

If you want the "REAL DEAL", the closest is Sol Cubano in Sacramento. It's owned and operated by a Cuban husband and wife team, recent emigres from there. This is NOT a hipster hangout, with outrageous prices and "reductions"anywhere on the menu. And yes, they make CAFE CON LECHE!

And don't forget a "house" margarita that will set you back $12 in a low ball glass.

I am Cuban/Puertorrican and would love to have a restaurant that is authentic and truly caters to either of these beautiful, exotic, and flavorful Caribbean cuisines without deviating too much from its original versions.  First no-no, a traditional Cuban steak sandwich does not have chimichurri sauce; chimichurri sauce is Argentinian.  A traditional Cuban steak sandwich has grilled onions and shoestring potatoes chips.  There's a lot of fusion of different cuisines and it's all good, but sometimes we do not need to re-invent the wheel.

@nhechavarria I have the same dream for years now Id have a restaurant with a country Cuban feeling. You are right with pan con bistec, Caribbean food get to California and becomes all weird and chichi. It loses its authentic charm.

@adelacuba @nhechavarria Not many Caribbeans in the Bay area, I know what you mean.  Wishing for a cafe con leche (not a Latte!) and tostadas.  I can dream...
