Very Pride of its Books

Local superhero indie outfit Manic D Press has reason to be proud every month: Almost exclusively Jennifer Joseph's one-woman show since 1984, the press puts outs quality books that, when it started, no one else would have dared to publish. In its almost 30 years, Manic D has pushed alternative literature and the people who write it into the mainstream. To celebrate Pride Month, Joseph has wrangled a stunning lineup of its authors to read at Books Inc. Castro. You might want to get there early for this one: Daphne Gottlieb, Michelle Tea, Justin Chin, Alvin Orloff, and Larry-bob Roberts are all legends, and joining them are Stephanie Rosenbaum (The Astrology Cookbook: A Cosmic Guide to Feats of Love), who will present food from her book, and the main course, if you will: Daniel LeVesque, whose novel Hairdresser on Fire is all the rage.
