Kim Epifano's Epiphany Productions Sonic Dance Theater is best known for its annual free Trolley Dances. But the group will bring dance to another San Francisco landmark next week, when the Victorian glass and wood greenhouse in Golden Gate Park becomes a stage for Botany's Breath, a site-specific work that leads audience members through the museum of rare tropical plants. With music composed by Peter Whitehead and performed with Norman Rutherford, as well as video projections by Ellen Bromberg and Ben Estabrook, Botany's Breath explores the spiritual, social, historical, and scientific dimensions of the conservatory's collection. Featuring eight dancers, the work is both celebratory and cautionary of our symbiotic relationship with the plant kingdom. Audience members will be guided in small groups for rare nighttime look at the Conservatory.
