The Fillmore might be better-known for jazz clubs and Juneteenth than Latin music, but that's set to change this weekend, with the Salsa Festival on Fillmore. Quickly becoming an annual tradition that attracts more than 4,000 salseros and salseras, the festival is two full nights of dips, spins, sparkles, hand-tosses and shines. For folks who have no idea what that means but still want to try, there are free beginner classes taught by Tomaj Trenda. And both nights feature a free outdoor concert. Andy Callao Orquesta plays the outdoor show on Friday, with N'RUMBA bringing the grooves on Saturday. Paid events are being held at Yoshi's, Sheba Piano Lounge, 1300 on Fillmore, and Gussie's Chicken and Waffles, among others. Featured bands this year include Grupo Bakkan, Avance, and Mazacote. With this much clave rhythm going on, the Fillmore could be the Salsa and Jazz District soon.
