Song of Ourselves

Local civil rights attorney and former Torah reader Daniel Redman has set 45 of Walt Whitman's poems to music and will sing all of them in his apartment, providing follow-along booklets, snacks, and drinks (including gluten-free, vegan, and non-booze options). Pretty much as SF as it gets, right? Since last year's event, Redman's added 14 new poems, and it's fair to say, this is the best live reading of an American Transcendentalist's work by a former public reader of religious texts you'll see this year. Seriously, though, he's pretty incredible. And Whitman, of course, is widely considered the most influential, if not best, American poet, and his pioneering, expansive free verse is meant to be chanted... a phenomenon that happens too rarely. With all donations benefitting the Pride Law Fund and promise of a "homosexual dance party to follow," Redman is mindful of all your weekend concerns.

starts at 7 p.m. at a private location (email daniel.redman@gmail.com, call (410) 493.1662 or visit facebook.com/events/144972239030958.
