Put a Bird on It

Wednesday, Aug 28 2013

Former park ranger and de Young Museum Artist Fellow Laurel Roth's new exhibit, "Flight of the Dodo," continues her work in exploring the theme of nature-human relations. With beautiful sculptures that depict pigeons and dodo birds positioned as part of a religious altar, Roth's work maintains a wry sensibility toward the complexity of the relationship between natural beauty and human evolution. Her past work has included beautiful wooden animal skulls adorned with Swarovski crystals, and this latest exhibit continues her work in that vein, setting up a visually mesmerizing way for her audience to experience and contemplate the interconnectedness of humans and our environment.

"" kicks off with a reception Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Wendi Norris Gallery, 161 Jessie St., S.F. .
