Most famous for his Comedy Central TV show Insomniac, veteran bald comic Dave Attell is making a San Francisco appearance this week at Cobb's Comedy Club. Known for his dark observations, self-deprecation, and confrontational comedy, Attell has been going strong in the standup biz since the late '80s. If you never watched Insomniac, the visionary travel show that featured the New York-based comedian visiting after-hours spots in cities across the U.S., you might recognize Attell instead from some of his stand-up appearances on the late-night talk show circuit, his stint on the early seasons of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, or from playing himself in the first installment of Arrested Development. Attell isn't afraid to get real, or to get blue, and his style is both curmudgeonly and somewhat frantic, like he's always kind of looking over his shoulder. He keeps it lively, so don't be surprised if you run into him after hours on the streets of S.F.

  • San Francisco Street Food Festival 2014
The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
