No pop-culture phenomenon is immune

Anyone who came of age in the '90s has feelings, one way or another, about Friends, the 10-season sitcom and cultural phenomenon about a group of twentysomethings who lived in impossibly large Manhattan apartments. The show made TV Guide's list of the 50 greatest shows of all time, and one of its episodes, "The One With the Prom Video," was named as one of the 100 greatest TV episodes of all time (also by TV Guide). And while a mention of watching Friends might make some of the more avant garde folks in San Francisco roll their eyes, there is no denying its mainstream appeal. But here, anything mainstream inevitably ends up with a drag parody, which in this case comes courtesy of the same crew that produced the on-stage reenactments of Roseanne, Designing Women, and Sex and the City. Appropriately, the Friends: Live! "episode" is titled "The One Where Everybody's in Drag." The show features veteran Trannyshack performers Heklina, D'Arcy Drollinger, Leigh Crow, Nancy French, Gerri Lawlor and Steven LeMay, filling in for Joey, Rachel, Phoebe, and the rest of the crew.
