Writers Blockade

British author Zadie Smith, known best for her acclaimed first novel White Teeth, will be speaking at the Nourse as part of City Arts & Lectures "On Arts" series. She'll be talking about her work as a novelist with moderator Steven Winn in a series benefiting the 826 Valencia scholarship program. Smith's work has been praised for its eloquent explorations of moral philosophy and intersecting cultures, as seen in Teeth and her later novels, On Beauty and NW. She's said to have dealt with some frustration and relatable writer's block after the crazy success of White Teeth, which is always interesting to hear about, offering as it does comfort or schadenfreude to an audience composed of panting, desperate writers. She has an artsy background as well, having been a jazz singer and a theatrical performer, so there's something else to meditate/seethe on.
