Late night with what the hell

Wednesday, Oct 30 2013

The Eric Andre Show, which could be just another late night talk show, is next-level crazy. It's both funny and fascinating in its insanity; the host himself is a high-energy prankster trying to make his often-plucked-from-obscurity guests confused and uncomfortable. Co-host Hannibal Buress is the perfect foil for Andre: His low-energy, laid-back weirdness is a comfortable form in which viewers feel like they can take refuge. It's a refreshing take on the talk show format, and there's really nothing to compare it to. Into that realm of anti-comedy, of weirdness for weirdness' sake popularized by the likes of Tim and Eric, comes this thing, Andre's show, pushing the anti-boundaries of anti-comedy. Andre and Buress are now taking the show on the road to celebrate its second season on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and they'll be performing live at The Chapel with surprise guests and an actual splash zone — so don't be afraid to purchase the $5 Eric Andre ponchos.

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
