Alta CA: Daniel Patterson has brought market-driven, region-specific dishes to mid-Market in a new restaurant named after a 19th century newspaper. Great China: Rising from the ashes after a destructive fire two years ago, this Berkeley Chinese restaurant has reopened a block from its original location. Third Rail: Cocktails and jerky are on the menu at this new railroad-themed Dogpatch bar from the team behind Range. The jerky comes in beef, pork, and veggie varieties. 628 20th St., thirdrailbar.com.
