Sizzle

The Outside Lands lineup is out! Headliners include Kanye West, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Killers, Macklemore, and Arctic Monkeys. Our favorite part of the lineup is the undercard, with a solid stretch of acts that includes Spoon, SBTRKT, Jenny Lewis, Kacey Musgraves, Haim, Chromeo, Chvrches, and Phosphorescent.

The best dance parties can cross over into the territory of live art. So it went with Derrick Carter at the helm of Mighty on Saturday, with the beloved Potrero Hill club decked out to look like a cartoonish gym, virtually unrecognizable from its normal state. Carter expertly spun classics and oddball anthems, remixing on the fly, and the party went until 5 a.m.

Joan Jett, J Mascis, Annie Clark, Kim Gordon, and, of course, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic played a stunning Nirvana tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. They did all the hits you'd expect: "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Heart-Shaped Box," and even "Aneurysm." All were of A-plus quality.

Fizzle

Neil Young remembered Kurt Cobain: "I guess Kurt felt too much. I think it's sad that he didn't have anybody to talk to that could've talked to him and said, 'I know what you're going through, but it's not too bad... Everything will be all right. You've got a lot of other things to do. Why don't you just take a break?' That's what I would have told him if I had the chance."

We all love to complain about late-night public transportation: That Muni doesn't run very frequently, that BART doesn't run nearly late enough on the weekends, and that there aren't enough good food options once you get where you're going. City officials convened a hearing this week to try to improve the transit situation. We aren't holding our breath, but it's a step in the right direction.

Kanye West and Future talk like they want human trophies, not women, on new single "I Won." "I want to dip that ass in gold. I made it over NBA, NFL players, so every time I score, it's like the Super Bowl," Kanye raps. Ladies, isn't it devastating that men this articulate, classy, and loving are now off the market?

Blue skies meet redwood canopies in the mountain town of Felton, located just north of Santa Cruz on Highway 9. Once a bustling logging community, the town is now a mix of mellow locals and serene wilderness. Visitors can enjoy the redwoods in nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and splash in swimming holes in the San Lorenzo River. For a bite to eat stop by Rocky’s Cafe for fruit-laden pancakes, barbeque at the Cowboy Bar & Grill and poolside burgers at the Trout Farm Inn.
