Baths: Show Preview

After paving a DIY path through the U.K. underground for half a decade, and after at least one U.S. tour was capsized due to visa troubles — the band hails from Scotland, with roots in Liberia and Nigeria — soul-hop trio Young Fathers finally grace California with their songs of love and war. That's an oversimplification, but not by much: love and war are writ both large and small on the group's moody three-way rhymes and on its sonic profile, in which itinerant rap and electro-futurism and tribal euphoria break up and get down with equal fierceness. Its first full-length, Dead, came out in February; for a more recent and more specific morbidity, see Ocean Death, the hypnotically moody new EP by Los Angeles miserabilist heartthrob Will Wiesenfeld, aka Baths, whose pheromone-soaked nerdtronica bangers made Obsidian one of last year's best albums.
