Red Vic

Why would anyone want to eat a meal and watch a movie at the same time? The whole concept's an insult to eyes and stomach alike. By the time you look down, spear a honey-seared sea scallop from your platter, and convey it to the old gullet, you've missed Orson Welles' entrance in The Third Man or Grace Kelly's in Rear Window or Sean Connery's in Doctor No. Conversely, you can get so caught up in the car-trunk scene from Out of Sight, you may let your vichyssoise warm up and your cassoulet cool off. Better to stick with food you can maneuver mouthward without even thinking about it. Few San Francisco cinemas venture beyond the tried-and-true popcorn/candy axis, but at the Red Vic the popcorn is not only of a singularly high quality, it's served in little individual baskets that add to the venue's homely atmosphere. The cookies are mighty tasty too.
