Best Place to Pick Up a Break Dancer - 2000
"Eklectic" at Rico's
S.F.'s most happening jungle party boasts treats of all accord every Thursday night. For the break dancer (or voyeur of the flexible young things) the first floor often becomes an arena. Felix the Dog and other rotating DJs spin downtempo, hip hop, and breaks while the chillens writhe, twist, and -- look out, break dancing terminology ahead -- do head-spins, windmills, and flares. But if dance floor stunts aren't exactly for you (and you think these shenanigans should take the next bus back to 1982), then check out the second floor loft for the best weekly drum 'n' bass action the city has to offer. It's a small-town version of the famed London Metalheadz scene, and the patrons -- packed in and sweaty -- get down. It's all the more impressive since, thanks to new fire code regulations, folks have to leave beers downstairs. Yo, it's pure dance floor energy -- hella phat!
