Morrow's Nut House
Morrow's is one of those places that make you realize how good something can be that you've taken for granted your whole life. It's a tiny storefront, not much bigger than a walk-in closet, and the aroma of frying nuts is irresistible when you're strolling past on your way to Union Square. Inside you see arrayed before you immense, top-quality nuts from all over the world -- Oregon hazelnuts, Georgia pecans, English walnuts, Hawaiian macadamia nuts, Brazilian Brazil nuts, and, best of all, jumbo cashews, all of them hot from the oil and dusted with salt. The turnover's quick and the frying never stops, so everything's fresh, and once you've popped one of those buttery-sweet cashews into your mouth, you'll never go back to the canned stuff. Good selection of dried fruit, too.
