That's a lot of time, money, and energy spent without any chance to check out the goods. Wondering if your he-man's sporting love handles or a six-pack? Curious if your hot tamale's packing cellulite? Then instead of dinner and a movie, check out Japantown's Kabuki Springs and Spas. Designed in the ancient tradition of Japanese public baths, the facilities offer a hot and a cold pool, a dry sauna, a steam room, and more than a dozen treatment rooms where would-be couples can indulge in shiatsu or Swedish massage, facials, seaweed wraps, acupuncture, and other services. The bathing ritual begins with a sit-down shower, followed by your choice of steam room or dry sauna, and perhaps a soak in the hot tub. After you've sweated out your toxins, sample the amenities, including herbal teas, sea salts, cucumber slices for sore eyes, and communal locker rooms equipped with perfume, mouthwash, and plenty of opportunities to sneak a peek. Coed treatments are available only on Tuesdays, a perfectly noncommittal night of the week for a first date. Admission is $15 weekdays before 5 p.m. and $18 after 5 and on weekends; spa treatments are extra.
