Comments (0) Best Attempt at a Bagel - 2002

Noe Bagels

Just so we understand each other: There are no good bagels in San Francisco. Every attempt at a traditional variety -- sesame, poppy, plain, cinnamon-raisin -- deserves all the scorn it engenders. Local bakeries have more success when they stop trying to be authentic and ad-lib what they do best: sourdough. Hence, the best attempt at a bagel in San Francisco is the outstanding sourdough round-bread-with-a-whole-in-the-middle at Noe Bagels. When they're hot -- and accompanied by a bottomless cup of coffee -- they're almost not bad.
