When it comes to doctors, San Francisco has plenty of great ones; let's face it, we're in the heart of one of the top medical research communities in the world, right? But Frederica Lofquist manages to stand out even in that kind of company. She has a knack for remembering names and personal info, even though many of her patients see her only once a year. She never makes you feel as though she has other clients waiting, taking time to catch up like you're old friends before beginning the exam. In addition to having a sterling bedside manner, she keeps up with the latest developments in medicine, explains things clearly, and has exceptional diagnostic skills. Finally, she's happy to recommend other physicians. Need a dermatologist? A dentist? A counselor who specializes in pregnancy issues (e.g., surrogate mothers)? Dr. Lofquist knows a good one, and she wants to share that information with you. What it comes down to is, she cares. We like her so much we (almost) wish we needed to visit the doctor more often.

need a gyn for my 19 yearold daughter...current doctors at Kaiser Fresno cannot seem to help - she has PID and they are wanting to do a hysterectomy after 1 failed attempt of antobiotic treatment. Anyone please help with a referral, willing to travel.

i have a 18yr old who is currently facing major surgery, possible hysterectomy for a pid that kaiser permanente fresno cannot seem to help us with..after antibiotic treatments of Ceftiaxone only, they have come to this conclusion...need referral to another ob/gyn - willing to travel anywhere

Kathryn Clark. She is by far the best OBGYN I have ever been to, and I have been to four or five over the years, counting my two and my daughters also. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and most importantly, very nice and flexible in schedule. Quite frankly, this lady saved my life when she identified my cancer, and she also delivered my three daughters who now go to her. And one of these daughters too was close to death, but Kathryn saved her life.

Can someone tell me where can i find a great doctor that performs the hymen reconstructive surgery procedure in the bay area i'd really appreciate it thank you.

Ladies-

Clearly- women have different needs and desires when it comes to their doctors. Dr Lofquist has been my physician for 15 years. Early on when I felt we were not communicating clearly I took it upon myself to talk with her about it. Our conversation brought us closer together as doctor and patient and we've had a stellar relationship ever since. My point is- patients are half the equation and if you know what you want or need - you've got to take it upon yourself to ask. They are physicians not mind readers.

And finally- who doesn't get peaved when you have to wait for your doctor?No one- EXCEPT for the woman delivering her child or having an emergency D&C ......that is likely what Dr Lofquist was doing while you were waiting.

So my advice- do look for the doctor who is best for you- but if you want to have a really great working relationship with someone like Dr. Lofquist- make sure YOU are willing to work on it too. My experience is she is amazing~ smart talented engaged and yes available.

Another former patient of Dr. Lofquist here -- and will agree with other comments that you don't want to go to her. Very cold, unhelpful, and rushed -- not sure how it's possible to get good medical treatment when a doctor takes about five minutes for your entire annual exam. If anything goes wrong, be aware too that she is extremely unsympathetic and uninformative.

i shopped around for an OB back in March and chose Dr. Lofquist from her credentials. I have to agree with Lisa that Dr. Lofquist was extremely impersonable and abrupt. She was not personable or kind, but rather mechanical. Perhaps things changed since 2002, since that's when she got noted the 'Best Doctor', and since Christine G delivered 3 kids with her, she got in before 2002. That's too bad if Dr. Lofquist changed after getting the recognition(which means more business).

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer (Lisa) regarding Dr. Lofquist's people skills or about the practice. Frederica is candid and straightforward - but never rude or rushed for a patient. She takes the time to chat before the exam about what is going on with your life and your body, which really helps her take a wholistic approach to your health. Yes, you do have to wait at times, but understand why that happens - she has one of the highest rates of personal delivery for her patients! The times that I have had to wait were those when she was rushing from the hospital. Frederica cared for me during all 3 pregnancies and successful emergency c-sections. My husband and I wholeheartedly trusted her with my life and the lives of our babies.

Based on all the great reviews, I chose Dr. Lofquist as my OBGYN for this pregnancy. She is very impersonable, the place is run like a factory. I actually had to wait a few times for 45 minutes just to have her come in for 3 minutes. Maybe her credentials are great, but she can really use some people skills.
