For women with hoop dreams but limited skill, it's not easy finding a place to play competitive basketball and learn from better players without making total asses of ourselves. That is, unless you know about Monday nights at Eureka Valley, where women of all skill levels meet for a friendly, female-only pickup game. Though attendance can be hit-or-miss, on a good night 10 or 15 women will arrive between 7 and 7:30 to play full-court, five-on-five games until they're sweaty and tired. Skill levels range from women who played college ball to women with limited experience looking for a fun way to get a workout and improve their game. And while the flashiest players won't hesitate to use their finest moves to blow by you for an easy layup, they'll also take time to offer advice to less skilled players who want to become a little more like them.
