This 28-year-old S.F. institution is still the best place in town to drink a margarita in the sun on a Sunday afternoon. Long featuring S.F. house music legend David Harness in the 4-to-6-p.m. slot, and with support from Larry Reed, Jason Hayes, and breakstress Charlotte the Baroness, the place remains the only Sunday church where you can worship the beat all day long.

The Pacific Sound System (DJs Galen, Solar, and J-Bird) hosts a free outdoor dance party (most deliciously at Stafford Lake Park in Novato, but often in S.F. proper) once every four to six weeks from March to September. In true raver form, the location isn't disclosed until the day of the party on the group's voice mail line. But thanks to the communal nature of San Francisco's dance community, you can just sign up at PSS's Web site for e-mail updates and you'll soon be in the know.

With an outdoor barbecue, ice-cold beer, stiff Bloody Marys, and some of the best Latin jazz bands in San Francisco each Sunday, the Ramp's low-key approach promises fun and, if you're lucky, a dance lesson from one of the many hyper-skilled salsa dancers who hit the patio each weekend. Don't forget the chips and guacamole -- a Ramp staple.
