Wheeler's talents are not a very well-kept secret. She has an extensive and loyal client base even without any press. And her popularity extends beyond her clients; Wheeler and her husband, Raymond Granado (who can work magic with a pair of shears), opened their own salon last month, and several of Wheeler's former co-workers promptly followed her to On Mars. Here's our theory on why. Not only is Wheeler extremely knowledgeable about color processes and palettes, and a wiz at applying dye quickly and neatly (no errant spots of, say, burgundy on your ear), but she's also just a pleasure to hang out with. She's warm and friendly and generous, with style to spare, all of which is reflected in her new venture. So, you want funky tresses? Done. You want color so subtle your dye job will go virtually unnoticed? Also done. You want to spend that hour or two at the salon in the company of a sweet, fashionable, expert colorist who's been known to throw in a kick-ass neck massage at the end of a shampoo? Then take your do down to the Lower Haight posthaste.
