Harlem Shake

Don't you wish you could have seen Josephine Baker perform? In her honor -- and in tribute to many other talented hotsy-totsy ladies of color from burlesque history -- comes Harlem Shake, with the motto "Changing history one shake at a time." Founded by local sex symbol Simone de la Getto, the troupe shimmies and sways across the stage, fluttering feathery sweet nothings around scantily clad, voluptuous bods. Pearls and fringe evoke the forward-thinking, anything-goes attitude of Europe in the 1930s, and with the recent addition of new talent, Harlem Shake's show now includes chanteuses, tap dancing, and other vintage styles, all in glorious black. What a pale place the neo-burlesque revival would be without these talented gals.
