Alemany Farmer's Market
If you think high-end chocolates, wine bars, and chichi restaurants don't belong at a farmers' market, head to the southeastern corner of Bernal Heights for an earthier experience. The Alemany Farmer's Market opened at this location in 1947, and it's one of the most successful in the country. It features local growers and vendors in covered and uncovered booths hawking greens, fruits, vegetables, spices, ethnic specialties, nuts, breads, coffees, and just about anything else you'd want to put in your mouth (oh, go on, you perverts). You can tell it's authentic by the number of regular people combing the aisles, wearing comfortable shoes and sweaters with pockets, bags laden with goodies slung over both shoulders. The beautiful people can go to the Ferry Building; we'll get our veggies at Alemany's reasonable prices, thanks.
