The atmosphere at this venerable institution is surprisingly friendly and democratic considering its product: piles and piles of new-to-you porn. And not just any porn -- weeeeeeird porn. In the wooden glass-fronted cabinets and flip-through bins lining the walls of the rather dim shop are ancient photo magazines catering to all possible predilections, catalogs of aggressive-looking vintage marital aids, Betamax '70s adult movies with covers featuring maximally hirsute stars, '50s stag films, and, the crowning oddity, two shoeboxes full of old snapshots of anonymous ladies and gents who made the mistake of posing for a lover decades ago. For collectors, there are also piles of Playboys going back half a century, and even some old non-porn movie magazines. Though the store caters primarily to gay men, there's plenty of straight stroke material here, too, and the gay focus makes the Magazine especially congenial to women, who need not fear the advances of horny customers.
