With their Planet Organics delivery service, husband and wife team Larry Bearg and Lorene Reed are helping to eliminate one more excuse folks give for not eating their vegetables. After being satisfied customers of the South San Francisco-based company for a year, back when it had just 100 clients, Bearg and Reed bought the online-based business from the previous owners when it went up for sale in 1997. Currently, you can pay $28 for a bin full of fresh organic produce (enough to feed two to three adults) to be safely deposited at your office or residence once a week. The service also features items like Niman Ranch beef, so it's not just for herbivores. There is the option of creating custom orders or picking the more adventurous "wild card," an assortment of the grocer's choice based on the freshest offerings of the day. And Planet Organics covers more than just San Francisco; its delivery area even includes places like Hillsborough and Treasure Island.
