Comments (0) Best Pancake Juggler - 2004

Scot Nery

In the competitive world of performative flapjack manipulation, one man stands head and shoulders above the rest. Other artists who throw breakfast food around claim to hate and envy him, but in their hearts, they also love him for elevating the form to its current dizzying height. Scot Nery was once a lowly knife-juggler -- how far he's come! His "CuliNery Tuesdays" at the Climate Theater, while not technically pancake juggling, do involve live cooking and some instances of airborne food. But it is his griddlecake show that has made him welcome anywhere freaks gather. The act's sidelights, performed while waiting for the pancakes to cook onstage, are funny enough to threaten the main event: Maybe Nery should really be "Best Backpack Escape Artist" or "Best Duct Tape Yo-Yoer." When asked, he demands to be dubbed "Best Sushi Restaurant," because he's, you know, funny.
