With the stately, forlorn beauty of one of the city's most-beloved landmarks as a backdrop, the lagoon in front of the Palace of Fine Arts is about the best urban oasis we can imagine for our fine-feathered friends. A perfect complement to the "palace," with its Greco-Roman-esque rotunda and enduring columns, the storybook lagoon is an unintended aviary of sorts, where mallards and other migratory waterfowl commingle with white swans and ordinary sea gulls. No wonder it's a favorite locale for young couples posing for wedding album pictures. So, go ahead, bring some bread.
