The wedding business is big business, and it has only grown in recent years thanks to the spike in same-sex weddings. In this city alone, there reside a few thousand couples who were lucky enough to have a City Hall ceremony during the month of love that began in February and was abruptly halted in mid-March. For them, and the thousands more who will at least temporarily settle for something less legal, there's the matter of finding fab places to register. Here are a few suggestions.

REI

840 Brannan (at Seventh Street), 934-1938, www.rei.com

What's more treacherous: bare-knuckle rock climbing or taking the marital plunge? REI is probably the best solution for those who can't yet decide. The store's newly established gift registry is easily managed online, too.

Williams-Sonoma

340 Post (at Powell, on Union Square), 362-9450, www.williamssonoma.com

There's a reason why Williams-Sonoma is the Holy Grail of registry for the betrothed-to-be. Exotically flavored dipping oils, luxury bakeware, menacingly sharp cutlery, state-of-the art appliances -- what new home doesn't need this stuff?

Rainbow Wedding Network

www.rainbowweddingnetwork.com

This pride-themed aggregator is a fun way to shop several sites at once and put together an array of gifts, from books to garden tools to giant rainbow flags. Most enticingly, Rainbow Wedding Network is the official gay-and-lesbian registry for the discount travel Web site Orbitz, which offers a searchable system of gay-friendly hotels and vacation packages.
