Cable Car at Harry Denton's Starlight Room

It's almost a clich?, but the Cable Car cocktail at the legendary Starlight Room atop the Sir Francis Drake Hotel is truly to die for. Served in a cocktail glass rimmed with cinnamon sugar, the Cable Car consists of spiced rum, curaçao, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Its reddish-brown hue contrasts beautifully with the cinnamon -- the colors really do hearken back to the rust tones of the streetcars -- and the flavor is neither too sugary nor too alcoholic. It's the perfect drink for the best time in the Starlight Room: between 6 and 8 p.m., when the atmosphere is low-key, the sun is setting, and San Francisco spreads out below in panoramic beauty. If you've only got an hour or so to kill with visitors, or if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the streets, you could do much worse than to flag down one of these Cable Cars.
