Mike Krukow, San Francisco Giants analyst
Yes, his banter with dulcet-toned play-by-play stalwart Duane Kuiper can get way too folksy and irritating at times -- and if we could ban one phrase from ever being uttered again, it might be Krukow's signature put-down, "Grab some pine, meat." But those are minor annoyances compared to Krukow's insights and generally spot-on analysis, which he mixes with his trademark humor and locker-room lingo. A former pitcher for the Giants, Krukow has a feel for the game and an ability to anticipate strategy that help fans focus on subtle shifts and nuances that most analysts would let pass without comment. The fact that Kuiper is also a former player makes it feel as if fans are listening in on a conversation in the dugout. The rest of the baseball world has taken note, too: Krukow and Kuiper provide the computerized commentary for EA Sports' popular MVP Baseball series of video games.
