Mistral serves the sort of rich, hearty, soul-warming food that goes well with a good local cabernet and a hunk of sourdough, the perfect restorative feast after a long, hard day of work. Among Fabrice and Betty Marcon's rustic Mediterranean specialties are their signature stew of fork-tender lamb, carrots, garbanzos, and couscous; a lush, thick cassoulet brimming with pork, white beans, and sausage; organically raised chicken, lamb, pork, and rabbit roasted over the establishment's French rotisserie; a wonderfully earthy zucchini-eggplant-tomato ratatouille; and seasonal vegetables, soups, and sandwiches of delicious high quality. Dinner packages include an entree for two to four people, two sides, and a quart of soup, or you can order a la carte (the stews are even better reheated). It's a convenient place to pick up a marvelous meal on your way home; everything's securely packed to survive the literal ups and downs of a San Francisco commute, and a staffer will even bring your order out to you when you pull up at the curb.
