City Kayak

Pier 38, Embarcadero & Townsend, 357-1010, www.citykayak.com

It's easy to appreciate a glimpse of glorious horizon, whether you catch it from a bar patio, a hilly park, or the window of your car as you commute westward from work to home. But everyone knows that the best means to see the sun drop out of sight is to gaze out over the ocean and admire the reflection on the water. And what better way to do so than from a kayak bobbing up and down on the bay? On the first Tuesday of each month City Kayak offers a free jaunt from 3 to 7 p.m., complete with paddling instruction, gear, and power boat guide, who escorts paddlers past SBC Park, Mission Creek, and the pillars of the Bay Bridge. Registration is first come, first served, and slots fill up quickly, so early reservations are best if you want to soak up that city skyline tinged pink, orange, and lavender.
