Inn at the Opera
Readers' Choice: W
Built half a century ago to cater to visiting opera stars, this sophisticated European-style resort is the perfect accommodation for patrons of nearby Davies Concert Hall, War Memorial Opera House, and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. (Among notable guests who've slept here are Pl?cido Domingo and Mikhail Baryshnikov.) The 48 well-appointed rooms and suites, tastefully decorated with European furnishings, evoke the intimacy of a fine private residence. Despite its smallish size, the inn functions as a full-fledged luxury hotel, with amenities that include concierge service, valet parking, and its own French cafe–style restaurant, Ovations at the Opera, where foie gras, duck breast sautéed with shallots, and a decadent crme br?lée are among the specialties. Rooms start at around $130, with suites going for up to $285 per night. Continental breakfast is included.
