Nestled on the darling little alley leading to the almost disgustingly charming little South Park, Jeremys has long been the preferred feeding trough of S.F.'s cheapskate clotheshorses, a classy, well-organized riot of discount designer threads for broke boys and girls. The store reels in customer returns, damaged goods, and past-season items from high-end department stores; it's also in touch with photographers who use clothes in advertisements and designers looking to unload unused samples. But who really cares where that nutty orange Ralph Lauren (Purple Label) sundress came from when you know it cost $425 at Macy's and you're taking it home for $7? Labels and styles vary widely, from American Apparel T's to Seven For All Mankind jeans to scandalously affordable pieces by the stars of the Italian firmament. The shop's shoe collection is a revelation, though ladies with average-sized feet have less to ogle than those at the outliers of the spectrum. Items get marked down frequently; a quick dig through the clearance racks in back nearly always nets something wonderful for less than $30. If you're used to getting the hairy eyeball from the salespeople at Sak's, don't be alarmed when the nice young Jeremys staff lets you and a $2,000 beaded skirt into a dressing room with a smile.
