Best Delicatessens – Best French Deli San Francisco 2006 - Mistral Rotisserie Provençale - CLOSED

Within a few minutes you can assemble a meal at Mistral that will taste like you've spent hours basting a lovely roast lamb or pork or juicy chicken, cooking perfect potatoes (floury under their crunchy golden exteriors), tracking down naturally raised meats and fresh Provençale herbs, chopping vegetables and combining them into a homey ratatouille, and stewing white beans with tomatoes and garlic. Daily specials might also include boeuf bourguignon, paella, and lamb stew, as well as soups, fresh salads, and house-baked pastries. There are a couple of tables in the hall outside this tiny, fragrant store (and many more outside with fine bay views), but this hearty fare easily survives the trip home. (A few steps away in the Ferry Building Marketplace you can find excellent bread and ripe cheeses to complete your French repast.)
