Best New Mexican Restaurant, Cozy San Francisco 2006 - Mamacita

Map & Details>>

This snug spot in the heart of the bustling Marina feels chic and trendy, with a bustling bar, yet still welcoming to families and not-particularly-trendy diners who just want to enjoy fresh, well-made Mexican food in dimly lit comfort. The largely small-plates menu features dishes both expected (guacamole al don, spiced with jalapeños and dusted with queso fresco) and less so (crunchy cornmeal-crusted fried calamari served with a chipotle-agave sauce). House-made tamales are stuffed with chicken adobo and sauced with red mole; rojas sencillas are soothing, homey chicken enchiladas. The wonderful little carnitas-stuffed tacos, three to an order, are dressed with grilled corn, avocado, salsa verde, and an arbol chili sauce. Don't miss the sopapillas for dessert, the crisp pastry served in honey-drenched shards topped with Ciao Bella dulce de leche gelato.

This restaurant looks good but the service is REALLY BAD. They were very rude to us when we arrived to the restaurant. They act like they are better than you and they run the best place, but the reality is that they don't know how to handle the customers.

Unfortunatley, this was the worst restaurant experience we have ever had. We went there on a Thursday night at 7pm. We were told that it would be 45 min to have a table for 4. After waiting 1 hour 20 min, there was a table for 4 but the lady at the reservation desk decided to give the table to a parties of 2. We were dissappointed. Then there were 2 more tables became available - 1 for 2 and 1 for 4. They separated teh tabel for 4 into 2 and decided to give to 3 parties of 2. They told us they could not give these tables to us as they were originally tables for 2. We decided to leave teh restaurant. I don't care how good it looks or thay say - the service SUCKS!
